I am a Biomedical Scientist and have been a trade union representative for 30 years in NHS Blood and Transplant,where, by being organised, we have secured some of the best terms and conditions in the NHS.
I am chair of the north-west Health RISC and vice-chair of the Health NISC, which allows me to keep up to date with developments in Ambulance, Health Visiting and Estates.
The NHS is now under attack as never before with mass redundancies, down-banding and unilateral changes to shifts and other contractual terms.

This environment means that Unite must be industrially effective, and that means putting a lot more resources into the branches and towards our hard-working reps in the workplaces.
We have to fund our activists to network and organise to defend our jobs, terms and conditions, and so to defend the NHS itself. Resources must flow to the grass roots of the union.
